L eave Chiangmai in the morning by van for Thaton. Have lunch and continue on to visit various hill tribe villages including a Padown (long neck tribe) village, as well as Akha and Yao villages. Spend the night in Chiangrai.

Have breakfast before travelling into the famous "Golden Triangle" in the northernmost part of Thailand. Visit Maesai, the border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar (Burma), where you can buy goods from Myanmar. After lunch in Maesai, return to Chiangmai.

Ride from Chiangmai to Chiangrai by minibus, stopping at a hot spring spa on the way. Have lunch in Chiangrai. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat trip along the scenic Mae Kok River and visit a Karen hill tribe village. Return to the hotel in Chiangrai for the night.

A fter breakfast go to Doi Tung, seeing spectacular mountain and jungle scenery en route, to visit an Akha hill tribe village. While in the area, visit the palace which belonged to the King's late mother. Have lunch before proceeding to Maesai on the Mynmar (Burmese) border, inside the "Golden Triangle". Return to Chiangmai.
