2 nights at hotel, 1 night in coach

Day 1

Depart Bangkok by air-conditioned bus at 8.30 a.m. Arrive Chiangmai in the evening and transfer to hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast, take a short trip into the mountains to visit Wat Pra Thad Doi Suthep, a remarkable mountainside temple, and Meo, a hill tribe village. Weekend tours will also visit Phuping Palace, one of the Royal residences, which is open to the public on weekends and public holidays. Eat lunch in a restaurant and return to Chiangmai to visit Wat Chedi Luang (AD 1411), a temple once partially destroyed in an earthquake and now restored, where the Emerald Buddha was once enshrined. Next, go to Wat Phar Singh (AD 1345), a temple decorated with amazing fine carvings, which houses a 1,500 year-old Buddha image. Drive through many parts of Chiangmai, passing residential areas and handsome government buildings. Continue on to Sankampaeng and Borsarng to see Thai craft shops where teakwood carvings, woven silk, lacqureware, silverware and traditional umbrellas are made. Return to Chiangmai for the night.

Day 3

Have breakfast before travelling to a jungle area north of the city to see elephants at work. On the way back, visit an orchid nursery where you can see some of Chiangmai's famous flowers. Stop at a restaurant for lunch. Depart from Chiangmai by air-conditioned bus at 7.00 p.m. and arrive in Bangkok early the next morning. Transfer to hotel.
